Azumanga Daioh
Azumanaga Daioh was a cute slice of life anime that revolved around the daily lives of six high school girls and their wacky/insane teachers. The protagonist of the story, Chiyo Mihama, child prodigy, must learn to fit in with her much older, though most definitely less intelligent, classmates as she begins her high school experience.
This is just one of those anime that you simply do not question. You just let things happen and you sit back and enjoy the fallout. Azumanaga Daioh is chalk full of blissfully pointless random moments and I loved every minute of it. The inherent random nature of this anime is what makes it so great and funny. There isn't a dull moment with all of the random comedy.
Believe it or not, there was a plot to this thing, though it exists in such a transparent/formless shape that it's almost nonexistent. But you definitely won't be watching this anime for the plot. You'll be watching it for the comedy. Azumanga Daioh will have you laughing until your sides hurt, so if you love comedies this is the anime for you.
There was surprising character depth. Simply put, you would have to watch the series to understand why I'm so surprised by the amount of personality and character building that goes on throughout the series. On the subject of the characters, each were lovable in their own odd ways; each with their own unique mannerisms and quirks. This series demands that you choose a favorite character. I know I did.
The music was appropriately playful. It was light and comical which fit the mood that this anime exuded like a well worn glove. The artwork had a benign simplicity to it which enhanced the comedic factor of the anime. It was nothing impressive, but for what this anime was, it was perfect.
Azumanga Daioh was a light-hearted slice of life anime that has perfected the art form of random comedy. With its inherent random nature, this anime isn't for everyone, but for those who want a good laugh I'm definitely recommending this one to you. I'm giving Azumanga Daioh 7 out of 10. Enjoy!
